Earlville CUSD 9 Expands Early Childhood Education with Modular Classrooms

The Challenge

Earlville Community Unit School District 9 (CUSD 9) is committed to providing quality educational opportunities for students and families in Earlville, Illinois. Serving students from six weeks old through high school and beyond, the district recognized a growing need for expanded early childhood education and childcare services within its community.

Since 2016, the district had been exploring opportunities to enhance its preschool programs while navigating limited classroom space, state preschool requirements, and the need to accommodate both special education and general education students.

By 2018–2019, the district began considering the addition of an in-house daycare program to better support working families, improve staff recruitment and retention, and increase access to early childhood education.

A community daycare survey conducted in 2019 received 91 responses, reinforcing the need for accessible, reliable childcare options. The district needed a flexible and efficient space solution that would support its long-term vision while meeting the requirements of the Regional Office of Education and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

The Solution

To bring its early childhood expansion plans to life, Earlville CUSD 9 partnered with Mobile Modular to provide a temporary modular classroom building designed to accommodate its growing daycare and early learning programs.

Mobile Modular delivered a 3,920-square-foot modular facility consisting of four modules, providing the district with additional space to support its early childhood education initiatives.

The project included a modular building lease and site-related services, helping simplify the expansion process and create a functional, welcoming learning environment for students and staff.

By utilizing modular construction, the district was able to expand its available educational space without relying on a traditional permanent building addition. The modular solution provided the flexibility needed to address current childcare demands while supporting the district's evolving educational priorities.

Throughout the project, Mobile Modular worked closely with district leadership to understand its needs, coordinate delivery, and provide a quality building solution focused on safety, functionality, and the student experience.

The Results

The modular classroom expansion marked an important step toward Earlville CUSD 9's goal of increasing access to early childhood education and childcare services.
