Maryland’s Severn School Utilizes 18 “Campus Maker” Hybrid Classrooms during Lower School Campus Reconstruction
Background
When Severn School, a more than century old private K-12 institution with several campuses in Severna Park, Maryland decided to demolish the “Lower School” (preschool through 5th grades) to build a new campus, they called on the expertise of Mobile Modular to provide eighteen 34’ x 24’ Campus Maker Hybrid Classrooms and one 14’ x 65’ ModPod restroom as a temporary solution to support students, teachers, and staff while the permanent new Chesapeake Campus at Arnold, MD is being constructed.
How We Did it
Mobile Modular built, deployed, and installed a total of 37 turnkey modular floors (15,598 total sq. ft.) to create a special temporary “Learning Village” for the 2025-26 school year. This temporary “Learning Village” is located at the soccer fields of Teel Campus (grades 6-12), a few miles down the road in Severna Park, MD.
Award-winning Baltimore contractor A. R. Marani provided additional services including securing building permits, coordinating deliveries to the site alone with connecting all utilities.
The Timeline
The Severn School grade school rebuild project has been in the works since 2023. Mobile Modular’s work with A. R. Marani started in earnest at the end of 2024, and the modular classroom buildings arrived onsite June 16, 2025. In approximately 45 days, 18 Campus Maker Hybrid Classrooms were “side-stacked” (placed in an adjoining fashion) into two rows of nine buildings each. Three of the classrooms were converted into school offices for staff. Additionally, extra-wide aluminum ADA-accessible decks and ramps were installed, along with canopies covering the decks.
Working Through Obstacles
Even with lots of planning, the project presented challenges, including several revisions of building plans to accommodate wider decks than is normally required for ADA compliance. Obstacles are part of the landscape of Mobile Modular’s work—you may even say we eat them for breakfast. We’re happy to report the grade school students of Severn School in Anne Arundel County School District have been provided an important feature of education—a comfortable and conducive-to-learning environment.
